[Wysal Acim X]

His heavy eye lids tore apart, tearing several dark eye lashes from their porous holds on the edges of the top and bottom lids. Wysal was ripped into consciousness from his terrible nightmare that involved incredibly hot flames, and screams in the cold night. Their was a thick precipitation in the air and a fog that you could almost choke on. These strange conditions could exist only in one place; The Hidden Mist. Now however, as his eye lids peeled away and gave way for foggy, unfocused vision, he saw a much different environment. A white ceiling, white walls, bland, plain-patterned curtains and a white linoleum floor that was over-glossed lead him to believe this must be a hospital. Trying at once to pry himself away from the hospital bed that he lay upon, Wysal came to a terrible realization; even more terrifying than his nightmare of the Mist. He was tied down.

Immediately, the cold, calm expression on Wysal's face changed to a rather distraught, sour one as he realized he was confined to the bed. He felt a sudden rush of irritation, annoyance and shear confusion as he began to fight mentally and emotionally within himself. His eyes rolled back and forth, darting this way and that as the white spheres turned between his eye lids. He tried kicking his feet, only to discover the full length of his confinement.

Unable to even lift his head away from the pillow that it rested upon, he knew that he was not only tied down, but strapped in, feet, legs, torso and even his head. The feeling was incredibly intense and in a frantic effort, Wysal bucked wildly, trying to break free from this hospital hell. His physical outbursts were to no avail and he sighed heavily as his body came to a rest and he tried to breathe. He needed to find another way and he needed to find it fast.

Sighing heavily, he closed his eyes and relaxed his muscles the best he could, considering the dire circumstances. Tightening and relaxing his hands, his finger tip grazed against the side of his thigh and he suddenly remembered something.

Using the opportunity to try and logically think through the situation, Wysal Acim allowed his body to further relax and he tried to remember just how he might have ended up in the situation. The last thing he could recall, was being in the Hidden Mist, and the terrible images from the nightmare flashed in the darkness of his mind once again. The sight was gruesome to say the least and the sounds of the screams echoed within his skull, driving him mad. He opened his eyes, trying to shake away the terrible sight even though he could not move his head or even the muscles in his neck to do so. Despite the immobility of his head, neck and torso; he discovered that he was able to move his hands and more importantly; his fingers.

Sliding the cold fingers on his right hand against the side of his right thigh, he discovered a familiar feeling that lead him to one conclusion. His lock picks had not been taken from him upon admittance to this place; however that had happened. This was not only a fantastic and much welcomed discovery, but undoubtedly his ticket out of here...or so he hoped.

Wysal's middle and index fingers dug carefully into the near pocket of his black cargo pants and beneath the hidden folds to where his lock picks were hidden. The fold of dark material was partially sewn beneath itself, creating something of a secret compartment within the pocket. As the tips of his two fingers roamed through the space, they finally came to touch against a cool, metallic surface. Using his fingers to pinch one of the small picks, he pulled one of the picks free and used it to begin picking the locking mechanism on one of the strap's buckles that held him. Slowly working the pick back and forth, up and down, he listened carefully for the auditory responses he desired and as the buckle clicked and finally came unhinged, he knew soon he would be free.

A faint grin appeared upon the dried lips of the prisoner as the first buckle finally opened and he felt the strap that ran across his waist line loosen. With a gentle lift of his hips, the strap further released its tension and allowed him a little more movement. The increased area of movement, though small, felt great, especially since his right hand was already at work on the next buckle.

Since he was unable to lift his head to see, he simply had to feel his way around with his lock pick and fingers, brushing up against the straps and following them to their corresponding metal buckles. Continuing to breathe, Wysal's chest rose and fell, though hindered in its efforts to fully expand. The warm air rushed free from his nostrils as he exhaled and his eye lids fluttered gently over to of his eye balls.

Another buckle opened and Wysal took the opportunity to thrust his hips upward again. This time the movement was profound and it ripped one of the straps completely off of his body, allowing his lower back and pelvis to lift away from the bed entirely. He was making good progress and not a moment too soon. He had heard the sound of doors opening and closing down the hall way for some time now, and the sound was growing more and more near to him. It was most likely a nurse or doctor making their rounds and checking up on their patients. This put a time limit on Wysal's efforts and he knew he needed to free himself and escape from this institution before the door to his room was opened and his efforts to free himself were realized.

Not only would he be placed into more intensive confinement, but also under a more strict and watchful eye. This was something that Wysal could not afford, especially since he had no idea where he currently was, or what had happened since his last memory of that night in the Hidden Mist Village. He needed answers, he needed to find out the truth and he certainly couldn't do it here, not like this.

Another buckle and now his waist was completely free to move. Lifting his hips and shoving them hard to the right, he checked the metal clamp that held his wrist and broke the screws that held it to the bed. As his right hand came free, he opened his eyes, staring up at the ceiling. Another door shut in the hallway and he knew that his door was next. With no time to waste, Wysal quickly moved his arm to unlock his other hand and once freed he worked at his head and neck. With both hands free, he no longer needed his lock pick and allowed it to slip from his grasp. Simply tugging at the buckles, each of the straps loosened one by one and within seconds Wysal sat up on the bed. All that was left was his feet and he leaned forward and grabbed the buckles, lifting the metal flaps and releasing the bite of their teeth on the material of the strap.

Wysal's heart sank as the door to his room suddenly began to open and he kicked his feet savagely, freeing himself fully from the bed and looking for a way out.

"Doctor! Doctor! The patient, he's gotten loose! Doctor!!"

Diving head first into the window; the sound of the nurse's screams trailed away as the sound of breaking glass filled Wysal's ears and he plummeted down into the bushes.
